When I Am Baptized

Here is another idea for the song When I am Baptized. If you look at the melody in the music the notes go up and down for each phrase much like a rainbow. We will talk about how the notes go up and down and then they will take their scarfs and make rainbows with their scarfs. Very simple but it is a sure way get the kids excited.

I made these wind wands or you could just use colored scarfs. I like that I have rainbow colored scarfs. That will make it that much more fun. I have enough for all the kids to play with one. Now before I pass these out the kids know that there are very strict rules whenever I give them some sort of object to play with. Some kids have a hard time controlling themselves and I don't want them to break my things and I don't want them to accidental hurt their neighbor.
My rules are:
Keep the wand in front of you
Don't hit your neighbor (even if it is an accident)
Only wave it when I  ask you to
If they break the rules I (or the teachers) quietly take it away and they can try again next time. There is no arguing or anything. Just take it away. I have only had to take a wand away once and I have never had to take one away again.

These wands are great tools to sing a song over and over again. The kids love it. I have these direction cards and usually I will coreagraph something for the junior primary kids but I let the senior primary choose their own motions to do.

I will either write on the chalkboard or I will type out the words to the song. Then pick a wind wand card to do for each musical phrase. Make sure that the kids sing a long while they are using their wind wands. I like to remind them that it is singing time.

When I Am Baptized

I love this song. I am a little confused why we are doing it two years in a row. Oh well, like I said I love this song so I am happy to sing it a lot.

I made this a really long time ago and it can be used for quite a few things. I like to have the puzzle part of this all put together and take pieces away to help them memorizes the words and then when I take the pieces away it will reveal what is underneath. You can tell that this is pretty old because my picture is very pixelated. Maybe I will redo it. I have a while before I teach it.

Or

I will have the kids put the puzzle together to see if they remember all the words and the order.

Book of Mormon Stories

Today for my lesson I made my own golden plates. I had some gold spray paint, card stock and a little bit of wire.

I am teaching the children verses 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8. For the last few weeks we have been talking about the stories that go along with the verses. I put pictures up from the gospel art kit (the one in the blue box) on the board and did a quick review of each story.

In junior primary I had a child come up and look at what was written on my gold pates. On my plates I had written the book and chapter they could find the story that we were learning about. I then had them guess which picture went with the book and chapter. We checked by looking at the back of the picture which had the book and chapter on it.  They loved coming up and flipping though my gold plates. When a match was made we would sing that verse.

When I did it in senior primary I had them look up the chapter and read the chapter heading to see what the chapter was about and then they matched it to the picture. Then we sang the verse.
